Proposals for Declaring Mocha a Free Zone in Taiz

The Studies and Economic Media Center (SEMC) presented a series of proposals and recommendations for the development of the investment environment in Taiz Governorate through the Bulletin of "Analysis of the investment climate and investment opportunities in Taiz Governorate", which aims to identify investment opportunities in the Governorate, difficulties facing investors and provide solutions and recommendations for the development of the investment environment.

The Bulletin identified the most important investment opportunities in the Governorate, most notably investment in the creation of agricultural products, their repackaging, packaging, marketing, and export. It also includes the establishment of central markets for marketing agricultural products in major secondary cities, investment in the creation of fish unloading centers on the Mocha coast, and the establishment of intermediate institutes focused on fishery resource development and aquaculture. Additionally, it proposes opening new specializations at Taiz University in the same field.

The Bulletin also proposed the creation of tourist resorts, gardens, and amusement parks on the beaches of Dhubab and Mocha districts. It suggested restoring archaeological sites such as Cairo Castle and other landmarks and opening them to the public. Additionally, it included the creation of public and private gardens and the utilization of hot springs for therapeutic tourism.

The Bulletin addressed the main challenges facing investment and investors in Taiz, such as the continued closure of main roads, the division of institutions among conflicting parties, and the weak infrastructure and institutional framework due to the destruction the Governorate has suffered from the war.

Other challenges include the centralization of decision-making, the overlapping of authorities and powers between the government and local authorities amidst stagnant investment regulations, and the lack of alternative solutions. Additionally, the ongoing division and dispersal of resources, as the Houthi group control the industrial area and other parts of the Governorate.

It is worth mentioning that this Bulletin is one of four bulletins on the investment environment and opportunities in Aden, Marib, Taiz, and Hadhramaut, prepared by the Studies and Economic Media Center (SEMC) and the Economic Reforms Team (ERT).
