SEMC & HCCI discuss Hadramout Economic Future

A discussion session on ‘Economic Reality of Hadramout: Challenges, Opportunities & Visions) was held in Mukalla, Hadramout, today.

Organized by SEMC in cooperation with the Hadramout Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) and the Economic Reform Team (ERT), the session was dedicated to reviewing the study prepared by SEMC on the economic reality in the governorate based on economic environment, resources and impact of the war on economic components. Challenges and opportunities were also discussed with a view of coming up with a clear-cut vision of the future to boost the economic situation.

Directors of executive offices in the governorates, businesspersons, representatives of government institutions, economists, academics and journalists attended the session. Inaugurating the session, HCCI chairman, Mr. Omar ba Jarash underscored the importance of holding such sessions to understanding the economic situation in the country in light of recent developments in the region as a whole, noting that the private sector is key and essential partner in development and sustainable improvement of economy in a way that boosts the national interest.

Ba Jarash stressed the need to strengthen partnership to pave the way for comprehensive sustainable development of the economy, appreciating SEMC efforts in organizing the session, which constitutes a genuine contribution in the field.

For her part, SEMC representative, Hadba Yazidi, stated that the meeting is one in a series of meetings targeting the governorates of Hadramaut, Taiz, Marib and Ade. The meetings aimed at discussing the economic reality in these governorates based on economic environment, resources and impact of the war on economic components, besides discussing challenges and opportunities with a view of coming up with a clear-cut vision of the future to boost the economic situation in target governorates.

On the other hand, Director of Technical Education, and Vocational Training in Hadramout valley, Dr. Abdulbaki Al-Houthari, viewed technical education as an important source of supplying the local market with qualified and specialized cadres in vocations that are essential for boosting up the economy.

Participants discussed the need to find solutions to major issues, developing future plans, creating investment opportunities, and facing current and future challenges, in addition to discussing mechanisms of full partnership.
