SEMC Chairman Discusses National Partnership Conference with the Prime Minister in Aden

The Chairman of the Studies and Economic Media Center (SEMC), Mustafa Nasr, discussed with Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak in Aden on Tuesday, November 19, the organization of a national conference to foster partnership between the government and the private sector. The goal is to enhance collaboration between the two sides, stimulate investment, and drive development in the country.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the SEMC presented several proposals to the Prime Minister regarding private sector issues. These included adopting a general framework for public-private partnership that defines the objectives and mechanisms of collaboration between the two sides, aiming to support development efforts and unleash the private sector’s potential for investment.

Nasr also discussed reviving the idea of forming an economic council comprising representatives from the government, private sector, and civil society, to be established in consultation with the private sector. He additionally proposed supporting the creation of economic councils in various governorates, organizing a national conference on government-private sector partnership, and suggesting that it be held in Hadhramaut, where the framework for this partnership would be announced.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the government's efforts to implement several reform programs aimed at rescuing the national economy and stabilizing the local currency, including work on a rescue plan expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The Prime Minister also addressed the administrative and financial challenges facing state institutions, which hinder the government's reform efforts. He stressed the importance of activating mechanisms for transparency, accountability, and combating corruption, to help reduce the imbalances that negatively affect all aspects of the country.

The Prime Minister responded positively to the proposals, expressing full support for strengthening partnerships with the private sector in various developmental fields and reaffirming the government's commitment to revitalizing the role of the private sector as a key partner in supporting government efforts.

It is worth noting that the SEMC is a civil society organization dedicated to fostering a successful and transparent Yemeni economy. It achieves this by raising awareness of economic and developmental issues, promoting transparency and good governance, and advocating for professional and ethical media practices.
